For 30+ years, I taught a wide range of subjects at the college level including numerous studio art courses such as painting, drawing and design. Also, many lecture courses in Art History, Women's Issues and general Liberal Arts courses.
My own journey has been based upon continual experimentation and exploration, much of it stemming from the courses I have taught and what I've learned over the years from my students and my personal experiences.
Retirement to me means doing more of what I have loved doing in new ways and continuing to evolve as a human. Join me!
This website was created with reverence to our ability to discover and re-discover, appreciate and perceive in new ways. The potential of the creative spirit is eternal. There are as many reasons for creating as there are ideas in the universe.
EVERYONE is creative and thankfully, we express ourselves in countless ways or life would most certainly be dull and boring!
Whether you want to try painting, writing, cooking, playing music, and/or exploring a range of different things, do it! Be open to new adventures.
All that is what keeps me at least somewhat sane and functional...and it can do the same for you. You do not have to be 'great' or a 'master' of something. Just enjoy the process.
A 'secret' I learned long ago is that the PROCESS of creating something is what can bring you peace, joy and fulfillment, regardless of your current ability or what you are pursuing.
This image is part of a memorial painting I created in 2022 for my daughter.
All of the memorial paintings are highly symbolic and narrative in nature. They include objects and experiences that I know were important to the person, as well as what is meaningful to me in my connection with them. I play with ideas until the painting reaches a point that it feels complete. This usually takes some time!
The appearance of this Bighorn sheep astounded me. I admittedly often need reminders that my daughter is still with me, and this was a huge sign to me. More on this image through the link below.
Whether looking at clouds in the sky, coffee grounds or tea leaves in a cup, we each have our own perception of what we're looking at. No interpretation is 'wrong', just unique! This is what makes coffee readings with a group of people so interesting and insightful. Yes, you can gain insight you may not have found elsewhere and it is fun doing it!
You can find surprising images in the sediment remaining in the bottom of a cup of espresso or cocoa after you finish drinking the liquid.
I often see mystical beings and those images are what my current paintings are based on, hence, the ‘Ancestor Guardians’ and ‘Mystical Animals’ series.
Paint the images you see in your cup. If you don't want to use paint, you can use leftover coffee. Just pour coffee that drains from your cup into a small bowl before placing it upside down on the saucer. You’ll need a piece of illustration board (available at most art supply stores). You don’t need a brush. Use your fingers and paint!
